"MISS N.Z." CONTEST. FIRST PHOTOS NEXT WEEK. »N.Z. WOMAN'S WEEKLY." Preparations are well under way for making the "Search for Beauty" contest an overwhelming success. Entries are coming in from all parts of the country. The girl who wins the title of "Miss , New Zealand" will receive a cash prize of £100. For this contest there is no entrance fee, and if the girls live near one of the main towns they may have their photographs taken free of charge. Some of. the iirst entries will appear in next week's issue. The problems that face the modern girl of the present- generation are discussed by a noted authority on these matters. The writer points out that friendship, if properly directed, can take the place of "petting" or "spooning," and that every individual must be taught self-knowledge, self-control, and concern for the welfare of others. Millinery styles to suit all types ci faces have been selected for the fashion page this week. There is another interesting article by Doug. Snelling, the-New Zealander who met so many fascinating folk in Hollywood. This week he tells how he met Jack Oakie, and there is a reproduction of a sketch that he made of this actor. . The editress continues her helpful discussion of .the problems that young writers have to face, and analyaes the elements that go to make up a successful magazine story. There are three complete short stories: "No Broken Hearts," "Just Guesswork," and "Call It a Cruise," the intriguing story of a family who always depended too much on mother. There are two attractive knitting patterns that should be popular for these long winter evenings. One is for a cosy bedjacket; and the other gives full directions for making a tidy cardigan of nobbly wool. This week readers have the choice of eight free patterns. There have been thousands of entries for the "Movie Mix-Up" competition, and the results will be published as soon as the judging is completed.
