NEW SPORTS AREA.
■—■ OFFER OF LAND ACCEPTED. (By Telegraph. —Own Correspondent.) GISBORXE, Thursday. Thanks to the generosity of Mr. D. J. Barrv, Gishorneis to have a two-acre sports ground at the upper end of Palmerston Road. Intimation of this was given hv the borough engineer, Mr. E. R. Thomas, at a meeting of the borough council this week. Mr. Thomas said that the ground hod recently been secured by the council, and levelling work was" now being carried out. The offer of Mr. Barry of the land was a very generous one, and, if accepted, would" increase the sports ground area to ten acres, and make the ground second to none in the district. Answering the deputy-Mayor, Mr. J. H. Hall, who said the offer was made to the engineer and not yet officially to "Hie council, Mr. H. E. Maude, representing Mr. Barry, said that the offer to the council would be made. The only obligation was that the council fence the land. If the council agreed to aceepfc the offer, its solicitors would be instructed to go ahead with the transfer. In seconding the motion of Mr. H. H. Decosta that the offer be accepted, Mr. F. Tolerton said that the area should he named Barry Park in appreciation of the generosity of the donor, and also in perpetuation of Mr. Barry's long association with the town. The motion to accept the offer was carried.
