Knight-bridge, one id" the lat"-t additions to \V. Fergus" team, is only doing light ta-ks at present ami is still a hit low in condition. When raced in the Hawke's B>y tli-trict earlier in the -";i----son Knight-bridge was in the money ion a couple of occasions in novice events ami i- reputed to he speedy. As .Myth his previously shown her ability to run out a mile there will be plenty of races to suit her later on. PROSPECTS APPEAR BRIGHT. The latest track efforts of Kl Meynell clearly indicate that lie will strip an . improved horse at the Wellington meetI ing next week. The field that he accounted for in the Hairini Handicap at Te Rapa last Saturday was not over strong, but lie won his raee at the right end. and will only need to repeat that form at Trenthain in order to extend his record. FI Meynell comes from a family that has been noted for its i ability to handle heavy going, and if i those conditions prevail at Trenthain he , will not be at a disadvantage. A LIKELY NOVICE. Among the novices in eommissior. at EUerslie. one that is likely to make good when his racing career liegins is Talak, a rising three-year-okl by Yaals from Thurenee. He has never raced, hut or? the few occasions that he lias been tested he has shown that he possesses the necessary speed to warrant his future being regarded most favourably. In conformation Talak also has a good deal to commend him. for he is built on compact lines and is not devoid of quality. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS. An additional mount for S. Wilson at Marton will be Tidewaiter. Further Trentham - engagements are:—J. McCauley on Laggard and Mother-in-Law, G. R.'Tattersall on Kinloch, C. G. Goulabro on Essex. N". C. Trillo on Bryce Street and Kilberis, P. Burgess on Lustral, and R. Glading on Paul Robeson and Lord Quick. RACES ABANDONED. OAMARU WINTER. MEETING. (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Owing to heavy rain the winter meeting of the Oainaru Jockey Club, which was to have lieen held to-morrow, has been abandoned.
