DECLARED OFF.

REFEREE’S ACTION. ROUGH RUGBY CONTEST. , A fourth grade Rugby match between Otahuhu and Tamaki at St. Helier’s Bay on Saturday had a most unusual finish —the referee walked off and declared it no game. His action was occasioned by the frequent displays of rough tactics and continual fighting. In the first half there was frequent roughness and displays of bad tempers marked by tho use of fists. Prior to the start of the second half the referee, Mr. J. H. Land, called the players together and warned them. About halfway through the spell ill feeling was mani ested again and blows were struck among the forwards. The referee then blew his whistle and called a halt to the game, which, was final for he refused to carry on. Both teams then left the field. At this stage Otahuhu were leading by 5 points to 3.

. The matter will come before the management committee on Wednesday evening.
