There was a much bigger volume of business on the Christchurch Exchange at the call this morning than for sever.il ilays, but value., of overseas issues showed 110 signs ol :i check to the downward tendency. Hank of New Zealand shares recovered 3d. to a sale and further buyers at a! 2 3 0. while Nationals were wanted at £2 14, 3_, with sellers at £2 1(5/. \\ estport-Stockton Coals con fir mod recent improvement, the ordinaries selling at 3, T l- 2 and 3 (5, with more wanted at the lower figure. The preferences, with reported business at 7/. have registered a rise of 1 3 in a fortnight. Drops of I'd in tho sale price of British tobaccos and Broken Hill Proprietary were the chief movements in the miscellaneous division. Sellers asked £'2 (5,3 for Tobaccos and £2 16.2 for Broken Hill Proprietary at the close of business. Almost all Australian issues were marked down, exceptions being Australian Glass, which had an inquiry at £4 12", and Wilcox, Mofflins, with buyers at 5 6. Oil shares relapsed a few pence, but metals looked a little stronger. Mount Morgans gained Id, and North Broken Hills 3d, while Mount Lyells were unaltered.
