CAR TESTING.

PRESENT SYSTEM'S ADVANTAGES. (To the Editor.) I am pleased to see that some car ownoi* are beginning to get concerned about the tunlikely to lie lost when the time come* to hav nil cars tested by the Auckland City Council. I am a fully-qualified engineer and am m charge of a tteaiii plant, which I cannot lea u> to get mv car tested unle-s I either close down or else get another certificated man to carry on while I get r:.y test. Aα it is now, thgarage owner obliges me by testing my car after working hour-*, and I cause my employer no inconvenience. The total cost to me is 2 •".; under the council tc*-t the cost will be 2 'f., plus much lost time, to say the least. I u«.> a car to go to work simply because there is no other transport available, as I ha\e to !..• on the job very early to raise steam mid I am too old to 'ride a push bike or walk thn five miles to and from work. For .J.'t years I have used a motor *of gome sort, and never had the slightest accident. I agree that a!! motor care should be fit, etc., but don't think Bob Semple intended to cause hardship by loss of wages or closing of business permicee while the car owner waits the pleasure of the council testing officials. Also eoine car owner* will have to travel long distances, the cost of which will far exceed the 2/0 total cost allowed b.v the Minister. The Government could lay down ji standard test and the garage could work to it. - OLD MOTORIST.
