Among many fine batting performances in the county cricket games this week was a double century to Gibb, of Cambridge. A century in both innings was just missed by Oapp, of Gloucester, who carried his bat for 90 and next innings made 137. In this match (against Leicester) the New Zealander Dempster scored 105. Surrey: First innings, 270 (Parker 83); second, four wickets for 291 declared. Essex: First innings, 124 (Watts five wickets for 40); second, 251. Surrey won by 186 runs. Dtrby: First innings, 437 (Smith 122). Kert: First innings, J67 (A. Pope five wickets for 68); second, 184 (G. Pope seven wickets for 57). Derby won by an innings and 86 runs. _ . Lancashire: First innings, nine wickets for 564 declared (Washbrook 124, Hopwood 127, Oldfield 122); second, one wicket for 25. Glamorgan: First innings, 163; second, 425 (E.
