Among many fine batting performances in the county cricket games this week was a double century to Gibb, of Cambridge. A century in both innings was just missed by Oapp, of Gloucester, who carried his bat for 90 and next innings made 137. In this match (against Leicester) the New Zealander Dempster scored 105. Surrey: First innings, 270 (Parker 83); second, four wickets for 291 declared. Essex: First innings, 124 (Watts five wickets for 40); second, 251. Surrey won by 186 runs. Dtrby: First innings, 437 (Smith 122). Kert: First innings, J67 (A. Pope five wickets for 68); second, 184 (G. Pope seven wickets for 57). Derby won by an innings and 86 runs. _ . Lancashire: First innings, nine wickets for 564 declared (Washbrook 124, Hopwood 127, Oldfield 122); second, one wicket for 25. Glamorgan: First innings, 163; second, 425 (E. Davies 100, Brierley 116, D. Davies 86). Lancashire won by nine wickets. Gloucester: First innings, 237 (Crapp not out 90); second, nine wickets for 441 declared (Crapp 137). Leicester: First innings, 413 (Geary 105); second, five wickets for 266 (Dempster 105). Leicester won by five wickets. Worcester: First innings, 383 (King 94, Gibbons not out 101; Timms four wickets for 38); second, no wickets for 7. Northants: First innings, 164 (Perks five wickets for 45); second, 225 (Brookes 113). Worcester won by ten wickets. Notts: First innings, 171 (Andrews six wickets for 51); second, 178 (Andrews four wickets for 36). Somerset: First innings, 298 (F. Lee 81); second, no wickets for 52. Somerset won by 10 wickets. Sussex: First innings. 227 (John Langridge 94); second, 165 (Heath five wickets for 50). Hampshire: FirWt innings, 209 (Wood seven wickets for 52); second, nine wickets for 184 (Smith five wickets for 25). Hampshire won by one wicket. Middlesex: First innings, 105 (Leyland four wickets for 15); second, 148 (Bowes four wickets for 35). Yorkshire: First inningß, 173 (Robins four for 24); second, three wickets for 84. Yorkshire won by seven wickets. Free Foresters: First innings, seven wickets for 636 declared (Killick 124, Valentine 111); second, six wickets for 223. Cambridge: First innings, 533 (Thompson 191, Gibb 204). The match was drawn.
