(Received 10.30 a.m.) LOXDOX, June 10. The Australian Associated Press learns that the exchange of dispatches between London and Washington continues in an endeavour to complete negotiations for British and American joint jurisdiction over Endcrbury and Canton Islands under a share-control system.
It is also hoped to reach a settlement regarding other Pacific islands to enable tho commencement of preparations for separate trans-Pacific air services.
Meanwhile Britain will shortly commence colonising Phoenix Islands, including Canton and Enderbury, by transference of natives from the Gilbert and from Ellice Islands.
This is disclosed in a memorandum to be submitted to Parliament accompanying the Colonial Office estimates, in which the Hiprh Commissioner for Western Pacific, Sir A. F. Richards, outlines the results of his examination for relieving the over-population of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands.
Hβ declares that Phoenix Island, which is one of the main groups concerned in the air services, offers good prospects for colonisation, and an early commencement of the transfer of natives is intended.
