WendysSunshine Letter
Dear Sunbeams— What a busy, happy time we have had at Sunshine House during this past week. Indeed the week has been packed to overflowing with the loveliest surprises. In the first place, when I entered the office on Monday morning last, goodness me! my desk was quite snowed under with packages and parcels. Peter Pan and I set to work then and there, and by two o'clock the last parcel had been opened and the last Sunshine gift neatly stacked away. Of course there were "hotties"—no less than two dozen of them—and, of course, there were bed socks, too, and warm, cosy quilts, and—yes, actually a big striped marrow! Next morning a little lady came to visit me, but I was not at Sunshine House at the time, so she slipped a little note in an envelope and asked that it be given to me. And do you know what I found in that envelope, Sunbeams? Folded between a slip oi paper was a £5 note, and on the piece of paper were the words, "From one who understands." For this most generous gift I wish to say a very sincere "lhank you" to an unknown lady whose heart must be very kind and very loving. The next visitor to Sunshine House was a Chatterbox Sunbeam, who arrived, all smiles, with the Chatterbox Club's beautiful bassinet. Two days later this wonderful gift, with its little pink blankets to match, its satintrimmed basket stacked high with tiny gowns and cosy woollies, was dispatched to baby Margaret May, just one week old. Wee margaret has fair silky hair and deep blue eyes. I can imagine how sweet she will look in the Chatterbox Club's bassinet. Baby Margaret's mother at first could not believe that the gift was really and truly for her tiny daughter; she prays that her little girl will grow up "like the Sunbeams who made this beautiful gift." And lastly in trooped the Brownies. Now, of course, I like Brownies very, very much—who doesn't? And these particular Br&wnies have a very warm corner in my heart, because they often come to see me, and they are such cheerful and busy little folk. They brought me in a further 100 patches, which means that so far they have knitted us 300 patches this winter. Well done, St. Aidan's Brownies! And now, Sunbeams, my space is all used up, and Mr. Printerman is calling, %^o^l^^^ "Make haste. Wendy—make haste." \m^\/£^^ So to you all, dear girls, my best love —
