"Yard" Chiefs Retire
SUPERINTENDENT Arthur kJ Askew, senior of Scotland Yard's "Big Five," retired at the end of April. Supt. Askew comes from a police family. His father, his uncle, and many cousins have between them served nearly 150 years in the Metropolitan Force. Many years ajro Supt. Askew was awarded the K'mjrV Police Medal. With Det.-Scrg. Youn<; he was sent to Hamp stead to arrest a man. The man pulled out a gun and fired. Serjrt. Young fell dead. Askew closed with the man, and after a desperate struggle succeeded in petting the weapon away from him. An expert in company law, Mr. Askew was promoted Superintendent and appointed to a key position at Scotland Yard. This meant that he acted ae liaison officer between the four London Miperintendents Sands. Bennett, Helby and Yandell — and the Chief Constable of the C.1.1)., Mr. John Horwell, and Sir.
