A POOR ICOMUTATIOH.
PRIZES DESERVE BETTER RESPONSE. Only 19 entries were received for the Australian Jockey Club Hurdle Race, to be run at Randwick on June 13. The race has lost a lot of its glory since the days, when cross-country racing thrived in Sydney and when the hurdle and steeplechase double and the AJ.C. winter meeting attracted many horses from other States. Nevertheless, a stake of £630 could reasonably have been expected to attract a larger nomination. The conditions, of the race may have had something to do with its avoidance. The AJ3.C usually imposes entrance and acceptance fee* aggregating 1 per cent of the stake lor all races; but this season has ehown indulgence toward* hnrdlerß, and at the autumn meeting for the two £000 bardie races fixed, nomination and acceptance fees at 10/ Mich.
