(By Teleprnph.—-Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Wednesday. A visit to the Horohoro liative land develoinnent scheme was paid to-day by 140 members of the Young Farmers' Clubs in the Manawatu district, who are at present visiting Rotorua. The visitors were extended a native jvclcome by elders of the settlement, in the course of which Chief Kilhi Pururu expressed the gratification of the Maori settlers at the interest being taken' in their work by the pakelia. They welcomed criticism and suggestions at all times. He reminded the visitors that the Horohoro block had been under development for less than eight years, and said that the Maoris felt that substantial progress had been made in that time. Two pupils of the Horohoro Native School explained to the visitors the operation of the school farm, which is established on the block, and also the activities of an elected council of children, which directs the activities of the farm and school. Under this system each member of the council holds "a cabinet fortfolio," and attends to the various functions of office. As an instance the "minister of public works" is responsible for all work in the school grounds, and is at present engaged, with (jhe assistance of the children, in lading out two basketball courts. The system is one in which the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Fraser, has been most interested.
Members of the. farmers' party thanked the natives for their welcome, and paid attribute to the headmaster of the school,-Mr. P. Fv Osborne, for the introduction of a noval system of school administration, v _ ' . • A
