DAVIS CUP.
YUGOSLAVIA IN SEMI-FINALS.
UNSATISFACTORY FINISH AGAIN,
(Received 10.30 a.m.)
ZAGREB, May 31
In the third round of the European zone of the Davis Cup, Yugoslavia v. Sweden, at Belgrade, Puncec and Kukuljevie (Yugoslavia) defeated Shroeder and Rohlson (Sweden), ft—2, 9—7, 6—3. Puncec defeated Rohlson in the singles 6—2, 6—3, 6—2, this giving Yugoslavia a lead by two rubbers to one, as Shroeder had previously beaten Pallada in the other singles.
Owing to an injured foot, Shroeder was 'unable to take tne court against Puncec to-<lay, ivifch the result that Sweden had to scratch in the remaining singles. The Scandinavian country's withdrawal thus qualified Yugoslavia to meet Belgium in the semi-finals, in which the other contest is between Germany and France. This was the second unsatisfactory ending to a match in Yugoslavia, as the 'tie against Czechoslovakia was awarded to the former last month when C-ejnar refused to continue the deciding rubber against Mitic after 7 o'clock. At that stage the Yugoslavian was leading 2—l in the fifth set.
