OTAHUHU CHARGES.
INTOXICATED DRIVERS.
LICENSES CANCELLED,
Edward Lewis Yates, a labourer, of Weymouth, pleaded guilty to a- charge of being intoxicated in charge of a motor vehicle, in the Police Court at Otahuliu vesterdav.
Sergeant J. Daly said accused drove his car along the Great South Road after the tyre and tube of a back wheel had dropped off. He was followed and stopped by Constable Hanna, who arrested him. When questioned, accused said he did not know that the rim and tyre were missing, although he had driven without the rim tor a mile.
Mr. Schramm, for accused, said that his client had taken a few drinks that day. He was a married man, who bore a good character.
The magistrate, Mr. .T. G. L. Hewitt, imposed a fine of £25 and cancelled Yates' license for a period of 18 months.
A similar charge was preferred against Thomas Robertson (Mr. Schramm), labourer, of Auckland, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
Sergeant >T. Daly said that on May 23 accused overtook a motor cyclist on the Great South Road, and by his erratic driving forced the cyclist to the grass on the edge of the road. Accused had pursued an erratic course to Otahuliu, where the cyclist had reported the incident to the police.
Mr. Schramm said his client had drunk only one small bottle of beer during the day.
Tlie magistrate imposed a fine of £20 and cancelled accused's driving license for one vear.
