There was steady bidding on 'Change this morning on the basis of recent rates, and with a general preference for local issues.

In the banking section New Zealands were firm and sold 2d up, at £2 4/9, with a later market at about that figure. Recent weakness in Commercials continued, and a parcel changed haixls at 15/9. the lowest fitture accepted since June, 1935. Nationals failed to maintain the recent 3d gain and fell back to £2 12/. Farmers' Trading shares were in demand, and buyers of the ordinary moved tip to £1 0.9. while lowest sellers asked £1 1/6. Brewery shares were dull, and there were no buyers either for N'ew Zealands or Dominions. Macduffs shares were quoted with sellers at £1, and no buyers. Tarannki Oils improved, with a market between 8/6 and 89. There was attain an unsatisfied demand for Government stocks, with buyers at late rate's for all issues and very few sellers. In tlie unlisted section preference shares in Whakatane Paper Mills slipped, sellers dropping their limits to 11/ without response from buyers. The ordinary scrip was again on offer at 5/6, with no buyers. In the minng class Golden Crowns weakened, a sale at 3/ showing a shilling decline. Easier Tone at Noon. Buyers for most banks dropped back slightly at the noon call. Commercials preferences. Nationals, New South Wales and New Zealands being eases in point. The last named sold again at the advanced price of the morning, but more offered at the same figure were not wanted. National Insurances sold at a drop of 2d, and South British appeared easier between £2 6/3 and £2 7/9. Practically the only feature among industrials was a weakening in Colonial Sutrars, sellers lowering their limits to £47 5/. Mount Lyells firmed up, with sales and further buyers at £1 2/9.
