AIRCRAFT CLUB.
AVIATION SCHOLARSHIP. SELECTION OF CANDIDATES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. Three members of the Aircraft Club, who arc to undergo an examination for the first aviation scholarship provided by the club, were selected by ballot at a meeting of the organisation to-niglit. The successful members were:—A. E. Lipscombe, Brooklyn, Wellington; R. J. Thompson, Soutlibridge, Canterbury; and J. C. Kirk, Heme Bay, Auckland. The number of members who participated in the ballot was 241. The chairman, Mr. C. W. Batten, explained that the members paid a subscription of £5 4/ a year, or 2/ a week, receiving, as well the right to participate in ballots for scholarships for a first, second, or third-year course in aeronautics, each year being complete in itself.
Xo one must suppose, lie said, that such a course would qualify one as a ground engineer, but to the person inyrested in aviation it was valuable instruction, and gave a young man an idea of what was involved in an aviation career. The three selected candidates will go before an examining board. The course will consist of instruction in piloting and ground engineering to the value of £00.
It was announced that the membership of the club was increasing so quickly that another ballot could be held within a few weeks. An art union, it was stated, was being organised to assist the fund.
