CITRUS GROWERS.
RECOGNITION OF INDUSTRY. REQUEST TO GOVERNMENT. 1 A jump in membership from 42 to 112 was reported when the Auckland Citrus Growers' Association, Limited, held its annual meeting yesterday. Efforts made to secure more members and greater interest in the citrus-grow-ing industry were the causes of the increase, it was stated. Mr. J. A. Lambden presided. The refusal of the Government either to invest the body with official status or to grartt it funds to carry on had frustrated the efforts of an organisation set up by the committee to govern citrus matters from a national standpoint, stated the annual report. A citrus marketing authority representative of the Auckland, Kerikeri, Tauranga and Gisbijrne areas had met the same fate. The New Zealand Citrus Council had been called together in an effort to carry on, and additional steps had been taken to improve marketing methods in the country districts. The Auckland association was pressing the Government for recognition of the council. Officers elected were: —President. Mr. J. A. Lambden; vice-president, Mr. S. W. House; committee. Mrs. L. F. Allison, Messrs. H. E. Becroft. H. H. Booth, R. B. Gooding, A. von Schramm and C. H. Scott; secretary and treasurer, Mr. a. D. Thomson; auditor, Mr. AY. J. Rodger; delegates to the Auckland provincial conference of the New Zealand Fruitgro wets' Federation, Mrs. Allison, Messrs. Becroft, Booth, House, Lambden and von Schramm.
