TWO SPLENDID ROUNDS STEDMAN BEATS BRINSDEN. NORTH AUCKLAND GOLF TITLE (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHAXGAREI, tliis day. Two brilliant rounds by W. J. Glanville, the Whangarei player, were the feature of the Xorth Auckland golf championship yesterday. In the morning he defeated A. L. McLean, runner-up to W. Mac-indof in last year's final, and in the afternoon he disposed of R. B. Hardy, of Titirangi. Playing in the concurrent competitions Glanville had rounds of 71 and 73 against t"ie scratcTi score o£ 73. He was unlucky to lose both the competitions on the count back. A surprise was the defeat of H. D. Brinsden in the record round by J. K. Stedman (Maungakiekie and Gleudowie). Stedman played well to be out in 39. His opponent, however, was out of form and was 5 down at the turn. He did well to take the match to the seventeenth. The results were: — CHAMPIONSHIP. Second Round.—Stedman beat Brinsden. 2 and 1 ; Clark beat Woolhouse, 1 up : Foote beat Clifford, - and 1 ; Glanville beat Hardy, 3 and 1.
HANDICAP MATCHES. Results in the second round of the North Auckland handicap were :—Potter heat Wynyard, Thomson beat Wilson. Sheen beat Christiansen, Hargrave beat Grant. GROUP HANDICAPS. The group handicaps in the morning resulted as follows :— No. 1 Group.—Barclay beat Armstrong. 5 and 4 ; L. K. Foote beat Barriball, 2 up ; Weston beat Burgess, E. W. Thompson beat Fenwick, 2 up. No. 2 Group.—Hood beat Surman, 1 up ; Harrison beat Younger, 1 up ; W. Wilson beat McLaren, 3 and 2 ; O'Neill beat Boys, 2 and 1. No. 3 Group.—Thome beat Mirrielees. S and 6: Dodds beat Callinan, 2 and 1 ; Wolff tyeat Hames, 6 and 5 ; MeLeod beat Steadman, 1 up. No. 4 Group.—Booth beat Civil, 2 up ; Lynch beat Hosking, (> and 5 ; Heald beat Birnie, Worker bent Allen. No. 5 Group.—Cullen beat Ludbrook, 5 and 4 ; Worthington beat Ryder. Orr, sen., beat Dyer. 1 up ; Going beat Clark, 6 and 5. No. 7 Group.—H: W. Smith beat Holoway, 1 up: Johnson beat Thurston, 3 up; Trotter and Gregson, byes. SECuN'D ROUND. The medal round went to R. A. McLaren, S3. 12—71. after a count back from Glanville and J. Morton. The bogey handicap was won by A. H. Grant, 3 up, after ai I count back from Glanville.
