POISON GAS.
LESSONS FOR WOMEN. WINTER DUTY IN LONDON. Weekly attendances at a series of classes, followed by an examination in which the successful candidates received certificates has been the winter duty of a number of well-known London women, states the "Daily Telegraph." Every Tuesday afternoon, from halfpast four, Lady Augusta Jnskip, Lady Somerville. wife of the Attorney-General. Lady Wilkinson. Lady Dunmore.'and the Hon. Mrs. Harry Talbot Rice have been among students of tirst-aid and practical details of air-raid defence precautions. Classes are held at the Knightsbridge home of Mrs. Fitzmaurice, of Orkney. After each class there is an informal tea party. Learning About Gas. Poison gas masks and precautionary clothes are brought to the classes by the doctor of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, who presides, and are tried on by the students, l'upils have also to learn to tell the different kinds of poison gas by their characteristic odour and to rig up gas-proof shelters in their own homes. Mrs. Fitzmaurice, of Orkney, with Lady Elibank, is also organising classes in first-aid and air-raid defence in the factories 011 the Great West Road. One of her plans is to enlist a hand of exdebutantes to take a course of six lessons and an examination in Knightsbridge.
