8000 DELETED.
PURGING OF ROLLS. POWER BOARD ELECTIONS. PROCESS NOW COMPLETE. Approximately 8000 names which appeared on the rolls for the recent elections in the city liave been removed from those which will be issued on Wednesday next for the election of 12 members. of the Auckland Electric Power Board. Purging of the Power Board rolls has been completed. A large number of names has been removed from rolls in addition to the city rolls, but the exact total has not been announced. As has been previously pointed out, the names of ratepayers whose rates are in arrears, have been deleted, and in the case of a husband with rates in arrears the disqualification also applies to his wife. Similarly, if a wife is the ratepayer, and her rates are in arrears, the disqualification applies to her huSband. This has necessitated a very careful check by the election officials, as in many cases names of husband and wife do not immediately follow on the roll in that order. It was pointed out to-day that voting by declaration will be permissable on Wednesday. If a pers**, on making application for a voting paper, is informed that the name does not appear on the official copy of the roll, such person mav vote by declaration. The voter is required, however, to have reasonable cause to believe that the name should be on the roll, and a heavy penalty is liable if a person should knowingly and wilfully make a false I statement.
