ACTOR PASSES.
PASSION PLAY ROLE. MUNICH, May 19. Anton Lang, the German villager who portrayed Christ in the Oberainniergau Passion Plays, has died, aged 03.
A bearded man with long flowing hair and fine impressive features, Anton Lang was chosen in 1900 to take the part of Christ in the Oberammergau Passion Play, a play that was instituted in the village of Oberammergau. in Bavaria, in 1634, in gratitude for the abatement of a plague, and is performed every 10 years by the peasants. Lang, who was born in Oberammergau, gave so striking a delineation of the character that he was chosen for the part in 1910 and 1922. the latter performance l>eing delayed owing to the effects of thr war. I which were almost disastrous in that region. Despite the poverty of the village in those times, the inhabitants refused highly remunerative offers of American I film companies for the filming rights of I the Passion Play. .
