DEMOCRAT SPLIT?

BLOW TO "NEW DEAL. ,, Outcome of Pennsylvania Primary. FUSION WITH C.1.0. REJECTED. (Received 10.80 a.m.) WASHINGTON, May 19. A blow to the New Deal and a new hope to Republicans are seen in the outcome of the Pennsylvania primary election, the feature of which was Mr. J. Farley's failure to secure the election of candidates representing the coalition of New Deal supporters and the Committee of Industrial Organisation (C.1.0.). The "New York Times" states that the result is regarded as the most important political development since 1930, depreciating the national political importance of Mr. John Lewis, the leader, and the C.1.0., and casting a shadow over the newly brightened picture before New Deal supporters and simultaneously quickening the spirits of Republicans, who see indications of a November election victory in view of the Democratic split.
