MEN OF KENT.
SOCIAL AND DANCE. The monthly social of the Auckland branch of the Association .of Men of Kent and Kentish Men wiis held this week at the Fabian Club rooms. The president, Mr. J. W. Jenks, presided and welcomed several new members. The hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Jenks and Miss Eady Payne. A most enjoyabfe programme was arranged by Mrs. Harvey, this included songs by Miss Meryl Harvey, Miss Frances Spencer and Mr. Stewart Harvey; pianoforte solos by Miss Valerie Shirley; concerted numbers by the Balmoral Male Quartet, and magic bv Mr. Alan Matthews. Mrs. H. S. Harvey was the accompanist. Mr. Jenks gave an interesting talk on Captain Scott's Antarctic expedition. He described the organisation, and gave a most vivid picture of the conditions at the polar region and the hardships endured by the party, and their marvellous courage in the cause of scientific research. After supper, there was a period of dancing, the master of ceremonies being Mr. G. Baker. Music was supplied by a voluntary orchestra of club members, Mrs. Payne,- Mr. H. Warder, Mr. J. B. Jones and Mr. S. Bowmer.
