"CIVIC SENSE."

CITIZENS , ASSOCIATION. QUESTION OF PERMANENCE. The success of the organisation's municipal elections campaign was referred to at a meeting of the Auckland Citizens and Ratepayers' Association held last night in the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. J. B. Donald, who extended hearty congratulations to the successful candidates, emphasised that there should be no slackening of efforts as the election of members of the Auckland Electric Power Board took place next Wednesday. The board had a eplendid record of service, economical administration and efficiency. Mr. Donald said that nine of the present board of 12 were included in the association's "ticket" for the election, while the three remaining places on the "ticket" had been filled by men of proved executive capacity and business ability. "I appeal to all present, and to citizens as a whole to support wholeheartedly the association's candidates next Wednesday," he said. "It can be safely assumed that the Labour party will make a determined effort to gam control of the Power Board and thus retrieve some of the ground and prestige which it lost last week." The chairman of the association, Mr. W. R. Fee, paid a tribute to the organisation. He made reference to suggestions that the association should be made permanent. This, proposal was endorsed by Sir George Richardson, who said it would provide a liaison channel between citizens and ratepayers on the one hand, and local bodies on the other. Other speakers concurred and said such a proposal, if carried into effect, would develop a stronger "civic sense." It was decided that the executive be requested to investigate the possibility of establishing an organisation on a permanent basis with a view to reporting at an early date to a further general meeting.
