FIRST OF SEASON.
INTERESTING PROGRAMME.
A bright and varied programme was given in the Auckland Amateur Operatic Society's Hall on Saturday night, when the opening revel of the Philistine Club was held. As well as a programme of entertainment, dancing was also enjoyed and there was a large crowd of members present at the function. . A welcome to members and visitors was extended by the chairman, Mr. C. D. McLean, who also took the opportunity of fare we] ling Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Wright, club members, who will leave on a visit to England this week. The. programme for the evening comprised tonga by Mrs. de Berg, Miss Sybil PaiUipps and Mr. Leslie Russell; a duologue by Miss Patricia Boyle and Mr. H. D. Lock; a xylophone solo.by Mr. D. Caliinan; humorous items by Mr. H. McD. Vincent; and a display of magic by Mr. Grace. The accompanist was Mrs. Reginald Reed. The ladies' committee comprised: Miss Myrtle Burns (convener), Mrs. C. D. McLean, Mrs. Harold jSayers, Mrs. Hugh Alder, Mrs. J. Pool, Mrs. E. Brindley, Mrs. B. Morris, Mrs. N. Dixon, Mre. Wilfred Wright, Mrs. F. J. Newbery, Mrs. A.
