ROAD IMPROVEMENTS.
TAKAPUNA BOROUGH PLANS
Now in a condition which has aroused many complaints from motorists and pedestrians, the section of the Wairau Road within the Takapuna borough ie expected shortly to be reconstructed to conform- with modern highway standards. The Mayor or Takapuna, Mr. John Guiniven, announced to-day that he had been advised by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R, Semple, that the Government was prepared to make a grant of £1600 to assist the work. "The portion concerned extends from about Shakespeare Road to the county boundary,".said Mr. Guiniven. "Together with the, bridge, it has been the subject of many complaints, and complete reconetruction hae been considered necessary. However, it was beyond our means to do thie out of the maintenance allocation alone. "I therefore approached Mr. Semple with the request for a grant, and I aeked the Automobile Association to aesiet me with this appeal. The Government is now prepared to make the grant as a subsidy to our own allocation.. We will submit plans, and when these are approved .by the Public Works Department the grant will be facilitated and the work started."
