WRESTLING TITLE.
LONOOS AMD NAGURSKI.
WINNER MAY VISIT NEW ZEALAND
That Bronko Nagurski, professional heavyweight wrestling champion of the world, and Jim Londos, listed as his most serious challenger, would meet in Los Angeles in a world title match in July was the news brought to New Zealand this morning by Mr. Ted Thye, one of the outstanding wreetling promoters of America, who arrived by the Monterey en route for Australia. The Dominion's interest in that oontest lies in the fact that negotiations are in progress to bring the winner of that contest to New Zealand and Australia about August or September this year. Mr. Thye paid tribute to the New Zealand wrestler Lofty Blomfield , , whom, he said, had greatly impressed American promoters and audiences. He should be well in line for a return match for the championship if he kept up his reputation this year. If he had stayed in America he could have claimed a "finish"' match against Nagurski. Referring to the match between Londos and Nagurski, Mr. Thye said that it had been arranged by "Carnation" Lew Daro, who claimed that it would bring a quarter of a million gate. Backing up that opinion, he had guaranteed Nagurski 100,000 dollars for the match.
Nagurski travelled by the Monterey as far ae Honolulu, where he was spending a short holiday. Further news for New Zealand lay in his statement that Dean Detton, from whom Nagurski took the title, would be in this country about the end of June. Also travelling by the Monterey was Sammy Stein, the Jewish champion, who wrestled here last season. He is on his way to Australia, and expects to return here in about three months.
