"NOBLE WORK."

CATHOLIC ORDER.

PRIME MINISTER'S TRIBUTE. "I desire to take this opportunity of extending to you and the sisters associated with you in the good work of caring for the aged sick of the city of Auckland my heartiest congratulations and good wishes on the- conclusion of 50 years of noble works in the cause of charity. It is recognised that the work of your illustrious order is amongst the most important of social and charitable works of the Catholic Church. May your order be spurred to carry on the good work." In this telegram received by the Good Mother of the Little Sisters of the Poor yesterday afternoon, the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, extended his congratulations to the order on attaining its 50th anniversary. The Auckland headquarters of the order are at St. Joseph's Home, Heme Bay, where nearly 120 indigent old people of both sexes are cared for. Following on Solemn Pontifical Mass, ■which was celebrated at 10.30 yesterday morning by Bishop Liston, the recentlyestablished custom of serving the old people with luncheon was carried out by members of the clergy and benefactors of the home. In the afternoon a large number of friends of the sisters and the inmates assembled in the grounds, where Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament was given at the outdoor altar which faces the main entrance of the building. In an address Bishop Liston° spoke of the joy and thanksgiving which were shared by the sisters and friends of the home. The sisters had raised a banner of holiness, and their work was a reminder that there was a God. The jubilee was celebrated in humble thanksgiving and with the prayer that their service might be for ever blessed by the grace of the Divine Saviour.
