THEFT ALLEGED.
FORMER MANAGER CHARGED.
Claude Henry Puttick appeared in the Magistrate's Court yesterday before Messrs. J. H. Kinnear and Thos. Farrell, J.P.'s, on four charges of theft. Accused was charged with stealing £11 on June 22, 1936; £5 7/3 on November 21, 1936£4 0/3 on August 20, 1937, and £2 on February 21, 1938. Detective-Sergeant Trethewey prosecuted on behalf of the police, Mr. J. Hogben appeared for the accused, and Mr. Terry watched proceedings on behalf of Peters' Ice Cream Company, Newmarket, of which accused was formerly manager. Detective-Sergeant Trethewey said that the charges were the outcome of complaints made by the directors of the company concerning alleged irregularities. When the charges were read Mr. Hogben said he understood Mr. Terry might wish to make a statement on behalf of the directors. Mr. Terry replied that he had no instructions to make a statement. At the conclusion of the evidence the accused pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial. Bail was allowed in accused's own recognisance of £250.
