N.Z. POLO TEAM.
CUP WINNERS HOME AGAIN.
EIGHT PONIES SOLD.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
Members of the New Zealand polo teams, with the exception of Mr. R. McKenrie, of Hawke's Bay, returned from Sydney by the Wanganella to-day. All are Waikato players, being Messrs. Nolan, G. Peake and K. Peake. Also fielded was a B team, consisting of two emergencies and two others, and altogether, with grooms and polo enthusiasts, the party numbered 22. Twentysix ponies were taken to Australia and of this number eight were sold and one was destroyed. The other 17 horses are being brought back. For two of these £350 each was offered in Australia, but the owners would not sell, preferring to keep them to defend the Gold Cup when the time came. Whether that will be in the centennial year of 1040 has not yet been determined.
