BETTER STILL.

LOWER HUTT BATHS.

MOUNT EDEN'S CLAIM.

"I notice in to-night's 'Star' that the water in the baths at Lower Hutt is as good as the drinking water," said Mr. K. N. Buttle, at the last meeting of •the Mount Eden Borough Council, when a report dealing with the Mount Eden Baths was before the council..

"We can beat that." said Mr. R. Mills, "because I think the water in our baths is better than the water we drink."

The report of the baths custodian stated that the season just closed had l>een the most successful in the history of the baths. The attendances had been 4(1.020. against 13.47") during the 1936-37 season. As a result of the "learn to swim" campaign, pupils from 13 schools had vkited the baths. Although the capacity of the baths had been fully taxed with swimmers, the water had been kept in first-class condition, and the Health Department had furnished a firstclass report.
