AUSTRALIAN SHARES RISE
MORE INTEREST IN METALS. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") CHRISTCHUKCH, this day. Leading Australian industrials improved on the Exchange this morning with rises or over 1/ in some instances. North Broken Hills sold '2/8 higher tha"n 011 tiiday, this being the biggest rise of the call.
I G. J. (. oles were substantially firmer, | and alter sales up to £3 I<J,3 ami £3 19/2 | buyers offered £3 19/1, with sellers 2d I away. Oilier chain stores had no business, though Woo!worths (Sydney) were strong, I with quotations from £1 2/ to £1 2/3. .Little alteration in values was noticeable m the early sections, with buyers' limits on par with last week's closing levels. New Zealand Breweries recovered further to a market between £2 3/ aud £2 4/, rising by 3d arid 6d respectively, British Tobaccos and Broken Hill Proprietary pave the miscellaneous division a pood start. Buyers finished at £2 6 2 for the former and at £2 19/3 for the latter. Metal shares were generally brighter, -Mount Lye lls going to £1 8/5 and £1 8/4, with more sellers at the latter figure.
