"ROCKETING STAKES."
ENGLAND'S GAMBLING DENS. LONDON". Scotland Yard and provincial police departments are on-operating in a nation-wide purge of country gambling dens. Masked behind outwardly quiet hotels and unpretentious inns, roadside bouses have sprung up like mushrooms.' Usually they are in secluded byways off main roads, but within easy reach of Loudon and other big towns. Many are said to be rim by aliens who have smuggled themselves back into Britain after deportation. Black sheep and play-boy sons of titled families, hard up socialities, and pensioned army and navy officers also are reported to be interested in the shady entertainment racket which police have set out to clean up. Wealthy professional and business men and their young women companions a.re said to be the mair patrons of these dens. Each madhouse has its own clientele, according to Scotland Yard.
