LOSS TO INFIRMARY.
DR. MAGUIRE RETIRES.
FAREWELL FUNCTION TO-DAY.
Twenty-six years of service with the Auckland Hospital Board were brought to a close to-day when Dr. C. E. Maguire retired from the position of medical superintendent of the infirmary.
Dr. Maguire was medical superintendent of tile Auckland Hospital for 20 years, and of the infirmary for eix years. It is his intention to leave 011 April 30 for England, where he will take an extended holiday.
Members and ex-members of the Hospital Board, the Mayor of One Tree Hill, Mr. I. J. (ioldstine, officials of the Hospital Auxiliary and representatives of the Toe H Society met at the infirmary tliis afternoon to bid farewell to I)r. -Maguire, and to convey to him their appreciation of his long service to the public.
The new Maguire ward was officially declared open by the chairman of the Hospital Board, the Rev. W. C. Wood. This line ward contains a handsome plaque bearing the name of Dr. Maguire.
After addresses had been delivered, this afternoon Mr. Wood presented Dr. Maguire with a gold watch and goldmounted fountain ]>en, on behalf of the patients, and a handsomely executed illuminated address on behalf of the board. The presentation of a travelling rug was made on behalf of the nursing s*air.
A beautiful bouquet was handed to Mrs. Maguire.
On Saturday evening a concert waft staged at the Infirmary by the male staff as a farewell, and at the conclusion the manager, Mr. D. H. Heron, presented Dr. .Maguire with a travelling clock and Mrs. Maguire with a bouquet.
