CARS OVERTURN.
ACCIDENT AT SPEEDWAY.
ONE DRIVER INJURED.
Towards the end of a spectacular programme of midget car racing a serious crash occurred on the first Lend of the Western Springs Stadium on Saturday night. In view of 50t)0 spectators, the ears driven by two local men, Mr. G. A. Mathicson and Mr. J*. Stewart, collided, overturned, skidded and came to rest on the concrete banking above the cinder track. Mr. Mathicson, a married man, aged •k>, of I pper Symonds Street, suffeied a fracture of the bone of the right shoulder ami dislocations of the shouhler and left hip. He was taken in a St. John ambulance to the Auckland Hospital. An operation was performed last night, and his condition to-day was reported to be satisfactory. Mr. Stewart escaped serious injury.

Stewart attempted to pa?* on tlie inside and collided with the side of Mr. Mathieson's ear. Both vehicles overturned, passing over Mr. Mathicson and coming to rest on the embankment.
Aln Mathieson's oar was wrecked, but Mr. Stewart's vehicle escaped, with slight damage.
