WESTERN SPRINGS MEETING.

B. SIMMONS CHIEF WINNER.

A spectacular collision between two of the New Zealand drivers' cars provided a climax to a thrilling programme of midget car racing at the Western Springs Stadium on Saturday niffht. In the race for local drivers cars driven by (t. A. .ind J. Stewart collided at the corner and overturned.

Most of the events were well-contested, although in several cases was evidence of greater skill on the part of the overseas men, especially on the corners. The principal race was won by the American. B. Simmons.

During the evening three unsuccessful attempts were made on the Dominion record for the mile, 1.23 4-5, established at Christchurch recently by D. Carter, of the visiting American team. The holder equalled the record. V. Podurgiel registered 1.25 4-5, and B. Simmons 1.26 1-5. The skill of the overseas driver* and several of the local men kept the crowd in a pitch of excitement .'ill the evening.
