CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING.
TAKAPUNA GUN CLUB. A large, gathering of shooters and visitors attended the Takapuna Gun Club's clay-bird shoot on Saturday last, when the chief ovent. was the "Blue Riband." the 1037-38 club championship, which was won by Lee. F. Ramsey on the 28th bird, after a shoot-off with A. J. Hanigan (a former champion, l!»35-30). Last year's champion, R. H. Bartley. shot 20 birds, and L. .T. Henderson, champion for 1034-3.->, shot 16 birds. Detailed results: — Seven-Bird Eyeopener.—W. R. A.vton (12yds), Arthur White (11yds) and R. H. Bnrtley (17yds) divided tlw sweep-money with the possible of seven birds each. A. A. Sotnmorville. L. F. Strain, E. Monteith. B. Hanigan and R. L. Baxter shot six birds .each.
1037-38 Club Championships, 21 birds, off 18yds, for presidents silver cup.—K. H. Hartley, last year's champion, unsuccessfully defended his title by missing one bird out of 21. leaving L. F. Ramsey and A. .1. Hanigan to tie with Hie possible of 21 birds. In the shoot-off (five birds, then first miss out). Hanignn missed his 2Sth bird, leaving Ramsey to shoot his 28th bird and win the title and president's cup for 1037-38 (all first barrel breaks). The runner-up. A. J. Hanigan. only used his second barrel once. Excellent performances by those two competitors. Other scores: R. H. Bnrtley 2« breaks. L. F. Strain 10. E. Monteith J B. R. L. Baxter 17. L. .T. Henderson (10.14-35 champion) 10, Arthur White 10, A. Sotnmervillo 15.
Seven-Bird Teams Match, off 11yds. for club's shield (six men aside).—This was a very interesting anil novel match for novice clay-bird shooters from the North Shore Transport Company and Takapuna (Jim Club, and keen interest and friendly rivalry wiis displayed by competitors in both teams, as well as by n large number of supporters from each team. The event was won by the Tnknphna Gun club team with 23 points against 13 points. The teams and scoroß were.as follow:—
Tnkapuna Team (winners). —H. A. Hayward. IT. Good. C. Olson. "• birds: R. George P. Bevan, 4 ; C. Moran, 0 : total 23 birds.
North Shore Transport Team.—Andy Smith. 5 birds: M. Smith, 4: A. Lucas. 2: H. .Tarvls. A. Lynch, 1 ; G. Andrews, 0; total, in birds.
As the above competitors had never shot elay birds before, tho scores recorded wore very creditable indeed, and several very prominent clay-bird shots are in the making with further tuition.
Twolve-Bird Trophy Match (for club's trophy).—This match was "won outright by A. Sommorvillp (12yds) with the possible of 12 birds. E. Montelth (14yds) and L. F. Ramsey n!>yds> shot 11 birds each. L. Six Bird fPouble Rlso) Match.—L. F. Ramsey nnvdfO and A. Somniorville Mivds) divided the sweep money with five birds each.
The next shoot, the Duff Cup. will bo hold in April.
