FARMERS' TROUBLES.
RAIN NEEDED URGENTLY. (Prom Our Correspondent.) PALMERSTON NORTH, Monday. Very dry conditions are being experienced by farmers throughout Manawatu. lij. certain areas which did not receive rain last month it has become necessary for winter feed to be' used to sustain milloyroduction. The position, while serious, is not acute, but dairy factories have observed a noticeable reduction in production in recent weeks. Farmers in some cases have been milking their cows only once a day. Light rain fell in many districts shortly before five o'clock this afternoon, but it was not sufficient to have any appreciable effect. What is urgently needed is a period of fairly heavy rain in order to promote sufficient feed to ease the position before the advent of colder weather.
