THE RECORDS BROKEN.

PREVIOUS BEST FLIGHTS. By crossing the Tasman in 7 hours 10 minutes, Flying-officer Clouston reduced by two hours the previous fastest time for the trip recorded at the end of !ast year by the Imperial Airways flying boat Centaurus. He also lowered by nearly a week Miss Jean Batten's record for the England-New Zealand flight. Mies Batten set a new figure for the Tasman crossing last year, when she flew from Sydney to Auckland in 10 hours 30 minutes, which still remains the record for a solo flight. The Centaurus, however, made the journey In 9 hours 15 minutes, Which Mr. Clouston has now bettered by 2 hours 5 minutes. Mies Batten's through flight from England to Auckland occupied 10 days 21 hours, compared with Mr. Clouston's time of 4 days 8 hours 7 minutes. Though the Centaurus completed a return trip from England, this was not comparable with the attempt of Mr. Clouston, for the flying boat made a leisurely survey trip and remained for some time in the Dominion.
