CHINESE INVASION.
Japanese Advance on Railway Resuiped. STIFF RESISTANCE MET. PEKING, March 20. The Japanese resumed their drive down the Tientsin-Pukow railway ou Hsuchow, and are advancing from Linoheng and also battering at Linyi. Six thousand Japanese bitterly resisted by the Chinese have not succeeded in encircling Tenghsien. Other Japanese efforts to capture villages east of the Yi River failed. The Japanese retreated from Maotsintu and Piughu, on the north bank ot ! the Yellow River. JAPANESE LINERS. FOR SERVICES ON PACIFIC. LONDON, March 20. The Japanese Government is subsidising the construction of two 2G.soUton passenger liners for services on the Pacific, states the Tokyo correspondent of "The Times."
