TWO TIMELY PARTNERSHIPS

GRAFTON AND EDEN

BOWLERS AS BATSMEN. COWIE AND H. HARRISON. WICKETKEBPER MAKES RUNS. The two leading A.C.A. elevens, Eden (41 points) and Grafton (36) were in jeopard}- at one stiure of Saturday's marches. The former had lost five for 43 against 'Varsity, and the latter five for 79 against Par.iell, -when the respective innings closed for 260 and 234, and both sides had to thank a bowler for taking part in a partnership of three figures. H. J. H. Harrison (71 not out), an ex-Mount Albert Grammarian, assisted wicketkeeper Bruce Smith (68) to put on 136 for Eden's ninth wicket, while J. Cowie (78) was associated with G. Ratcliffe (74) in a hard-hit stand of 141 for Grafton's sixth, wicket. O.aiously enough these four playere were the only ones to exceed the half-century. Another paradox was the success of V. I Scott with the ball, for his four for 43 I for Y.M.C.A. against I'oneonby wae the third best performance of the day. The outstanding feat was that of the young

Xorth Shore bowler, W. Wheeler, who took six for 37 against King's Old Boye. He was closely followed by M. Clark, whose six for 49 against Grafton was coneietency itself after his recent sticce.se for Parnell in the previous series when playing King's. The other man to take as many as four wickets was the ex-Xfw Zealand and Auckland representative D. R. Garrard. who«e slows accounted for four Edenitej for 81. An interesting newcomer to senioi cricket was J. B. Stevenson. Following his 83 aaainst his old school (Takapuna Grammar) on St. Patrick's Day, he was co-opted by Y.M.C.A. from Stanley Ba> (who gave the club Scott ind B. Donald son as well). Although Stevenson mad« a flying trip south to join the Brabin Cur team at Christmas ae a bowler, H. D

Gilleepie wisely eent him in to open the innings against Ponsonbv and when Ftumps were drawn at'.TO for two wickets Stevenson, had survived to bat another day. Scores:— GRAFTON V. PARNELL.
