COLLEGE DANCE.

FRESHERS WELCOMED. BRIGHT UNIVERSITY SCENE. The freshers' welcome, the social event of the college j r ear, was held in file University Hall on Saturday night. The importance of the social activities connected with college life was stressed by Professor H. Belshaw, chairman of the Professorial Board, who urged the students to enter into other activities besides ordinary lecture work. A short address was also given by Mr. Eric Halstead. the president of the executive of the Students' Association, following which supper was served in the women's common room. The supper tables were tastefully decorated for the occasion with large bowls of autunuicoloured flowers. Following supper dancing was held in the hall, and the ladies' committee responsible for the arrangements included: Miss Margaret McLean, who wore a frock of powder bine crepe relieved with a poey of flowers in a deeper shade of blue; and Miss Muriel Smeed, who was in gold satin. Among those present were: Mrs. H. Belshaw, Mrs. Willis Airey, Mre. J. A. Bartrum, Mrs. D. Brown, Mrs. E. fi. Briggs, Mrs. H. G. Forder, Mrs. K. Bullen, Mrs. R. H. Melville, Miss M. Bourne.
