"SIMPLY STAGGERED."

REPLY TO MR. SAVAGE. (By Telegraph'.—PrcHd Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. "I am simply staggered," said Mr. B. S. Irwin, president of the Forbury Park Trotting Club, when shown the denial given by the Prime Minister, the Bt. Hon. M. J. Savage, on Saturday, to a statement by Mr. Irwin that Mr. Savage had promised a deputation from the Trotting Conference last year that he Would sot up a Royal Commission at once to dual with racing and trotting. Mr. Savage said that lie made no promise to set up an immediate commission. "There were over 20 people in the room at the time nnd the last thing that Mr. H. P. Nico'.l, president of the conference, asked was that a Royal Commission should be set up to deal with tho question of racing and trotting. Mr. Savage said lie would attend to it and saw nothing in the way of it. The matter can be referred to Mr. Nkoll himself. I am surprised Mr. Savage made such a statement."
