AND REVENUE DROPS.
POWER BOAKD SATISFIED.
An increase in operating expenses of nearly £50.000 for the nine months ended December 31, 1937, mainly due to an increased power purchase, was reported to the Auckland Electric Power Board vesterday by the general manager, Mr. R,'H. Bartley.
"The operating expenses are greater than for the same period last year by £48,107," he said. The increase was due mainly to the power purchased, which increased by £27,598
Revenue returns showed that units sold for lighting increased by £4994, for power by £17,787, for domestic supply by £27,238,. while units for traction decreased in value by £5989 and for public lighting by £2659. The total units sold showed an increase in value of £40,874.
"After considering all these factors, the statements show a surplus for the nine months of working of £15,908." continued Mr. Bartley. "This surplus is smaller than that shown for the corresponding period la6t year, the figure then being £27.715." The position was, however, anticipated. Viewed in the light of greatly increased costs to the board and its reduced charges, the position could not be considered other than satisfactory.
Staff Congratulated. "We must congratulate our general manager and staff on the success achieved." commented the chairman, Mr. S. J. Harbutt. In 1922, he charges for domestic supply were 5d a unit, and in addition there was a meter charge. To-day the maximum charge was 3d and the average was ,7997 d. The report was adopted.
