LAWN TENNIS.
HARD COURT CLUB. NGATIRA'S HRST SECTION. SECOND TO 'POINT CHEVALIER' (By HALF VOLLEY). In spite of recent adverse weather, good progress has been made with the Interclub matches under the auspices of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association. The entries this year were large and necessitated a considerable amount of work on the part of an energetic committee. It will be of interest to tennis players generally to see a summary of the results of grade matches during the season, and below is appended a review showing section winners in the various grades in the hard court competition. In this section Campbell Park with five points had still a match to play against West End No. 2. but even if they had won the match by the maximum of 10 matches to nil and received seven points the same as the winners, they would stiil lose the section on sets. The remaining match, therefore, was unplayed. The closeness of the two top teams will be socn from the fact that when they met the result was a draw, five matches •\ich, with the winners scoring 13 sets to Campbell Park's 10. These two teams proved to be much superior to the other three in the grade. In the section final in this grade - Hallyburtou Johnstone scored a comfortable victory over Ngatira last Saturday at Windmill Road by seven matches to three. This match provided a good contest, and no less than three of the matches were won at 6 —5 in the third tost, and it would have taken very little to have made the result five matches all. However, on the day the winners were superior and thoroughly deserved their victory. THIRD GRADE. This grade comprised five sections with 26 teams in all, but in three of the sections the ult mate winners proved themselves outstanding teams in their section. The first and second section resulted in closer victories. (First Section). p. \v. d rts. In each of the other events strangely enough the matches were halved with a win and loss to each team. Ngatira won an easy victory over West End in the other semi-final by eight matches to two. The final of this section, therefore, rests between Ngatira and Waiata. The schedule dealing with the fourth and fifth grades of the hard court section wilL be given next week.
