JUBILEE BANQUET.
COMMERCE CHAMBER. INVERCARGILL CELEBRATIONS. <By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, Friday. One of the oldest, if not the oldest, organisations of its kind in New Zealand, the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce at a jubilee banquet last evening celebrated 75 years' work in the interests of Invercaigill and the province of Southland.
That the province should receive full service and benefit from its port has always been one of the chief aims of the Invercargill Chamber, and its shipping committee through the years has done a great deal to realise that aim. The shipping committee had its birth in a body known as the Southland Importers' Association, which was formed in 1904.
The banquet to-night was attended by representatives of local bodies and of business, commercial and farming interests. The president of the chamber, Mr. J. H. Reed, presided.
