DELIVERY OF MEAT.
PENNY A POUND INCREASE. DECISION OF BUTCHERS. An extra penny a pound for delivery and booking, or for booking, on all meat sold to retail customers will be enforced in future. This decision has been announced in a statement issued by the Master Butchers' Association, which explains that "cash at shop'J prices could obtain only where the customer purchased the meat and took it away. Scarcity of stock and the keenest competition from export buyers, combined with lower hide, skin and tallow prices and a great increase in expenses are the reasons for this decision, as outlined in the statement. At a meeting held to consider ways and means to obtain relief from the position, the master butchers agreed that it was necessary to avoid any general advance in retail prices. One of the greatest problems was the excessive and mounting costs of delivery and it was decided to increase the delivery charges by one penny a pound. It was decided also that, owing to the higher prices being paid for pigs, the price of pork be advanced by a penny a pound.
