Queensland Premier Makes Promises. SHORTER WEEK FAVOURED. (Received 11.30 a.m.) BRISBANE, this day. The Premier of Queensland, Mr. Forgan Smith, in a policy speech, said! Labour, if returned to power, would exempt from relief tax all incomes up to £208 a year, reduce tax 011 higher incomes and remove unnecessary burdens 011 income taxation. The Government would collaborate with the Commonwealth and the other State Governments to give effect to its objective of a 40-hour week, with a maximum of 44 hours. He added that employment was now at the highest level ever recorded in Queensland, and provided export prices did not sag the State would be better off than it had been for 12 years. I
