FOUNDING OF METHODISM. CELEBRATIONS IN AUCKLAND. Two hundred years ago, on May 24. 1738. the evangelical conversion of .John Wesley took place, and from May 22 to May 29 of this year a series of public meetings will be held in Auckland to celebrate the bi-centenary of Methodism and its contribution to the world. As an introduction to these meetings there will be held in the Town Hall on the afternoon of Sunday, March 20. a united rally at which the speaker will be the Rev. C. Trving Benson, 8.A., who has come to New Zealand in connection with the bi-centenary celebrations. Mr. Benson is superintendent of the Melbourne Central Mission, one of the largest institutions of its kind in the world. A forceful and popular preacher of great eloquence, he attracts such attendances to Wesley Church, Melbourne, that often a queue is waiting outside the church two hours before the service, and his voice is one of the best known over the radio in Australia. His visit thus has more than denominational interest to Aucklanclers.
