MONEY FOR DIVORCE S.M. IMPOSES £5 I'iJIEL A woman who set up in business as a bookmaker at the Takapuna Joekev Clubs races at Ellerslie on Saturday to try to make enough money to pay for a divorce was before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. She was Eileen Lucy Satchell, aged 30, and she pleaded guilty to the charge of carrying on the business of a bookmaker at Ellerelie. "This woman began taking beta on the course on Saturday end the police noticed her doing quite a good business m opposition to the 'tote,'" said Detec-tive-Sergeant McHugh. "When accosted by Detective Aplin she was quite frank and admitted having taken 46 bets totalling £6 5/6, the bets ranging from 1/3 to 7/6. She had £5 3/ in her possession. She has never been in any trouble before." Asked by the magistrate what ehe did, Detective-Sergeant McHugh said Mrs. Satchell worked in the city. "She told the police she was trying to get a few pounds together to pay her expenses—money to pay a solicitor for a divorce." Mr. Hunt imposed a fine of £5.
